VIDEO | Delhi: Addressing a joint press meet with PM Narendra Modi, Polish PM Donald Tusk says, "We had a fruitful discussion with Prime Minister Modi about how Poland and India can develop and strengthen their strategic partnership. The decision to establish this partnership was made jointly during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Warsaw in August 2024…The synergies between Poland and India are quite clear. We have no conflicts of interest and no historical issues that divide us. We are building our friendship on the basis of trust, shared values, and ideas such as non-violence. The great Polish Solidarity movement was based on non-violent action, and we were very much inspired by your tradition. This is quite obvious. We value and appreciate the global role that you, Prime Minister, play on the world stage. It is a source of hope in these times of destabilisation, uncertainty, political uncertainty, and instability.” (Source: Third Party) (Full video available on PTI Videos - https://t.co/bIyFWTfmBd)

Poland is looking to expand its economic engagement with India, with an ambitious target of doubling bilateral trade by 2030 and preparing for the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, according to Patryk Kugiel, a professor at the University of Warsaw.Kugiel said Tusk’s visit had two main objectives: strengthening economic relations and deepening strategic engagement with India as an emerging global power.
A business delegation comprising nearly 100 Polish companies has accompanied the visit, reflecting Warsaw’s interest in tapping opportunities in the Indian market. Potential areas of cooperation include information technology, digital services, green technology, battery recycling, space, food processing, mining, transport equipment and machinery. “The biggest ever business delegation shows massive interest in India as a partner of choice,” Kugiel said, highlighting the scope for expanding commercial ties.
Defence cooperation is another key priority, with both countries undertaking major modernisation programmes for their armed forces. Kugiel said greater trust, an improved legal framework and an agreement on the protection of classified information would help facilitate deeper collaboration. He also pointed to opportunities for joint defence research, development and manufacturing, saying the two sides could “co-design, co-develop, co-produce”.Beyond economic and defence ties, Poland seeks closer engagement with India on global issues, including multilateral cooperation and efforts to facilitate peace in Ukraine, Kugiel said. The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral relations through stronger institutional links across government, academia and business, alongside expanded cooperation in strategic sectors.Modi and Tusk’s talks mark a further step in strengthening India-Poland relations, with both sides seeking to translate their strategic partnership into greater trade, investment and technological collaboration.
