External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has said that India’s partnership with Africa is being built not just for today, but for generations to come. Addressing a gathering at the Foreign Service Institute of Ghana in Accra on Tuesday, he said diplomacy must manage competition without allowing it to turn into confrontation and promote cooperation despite differences in interests. The External Affairs Minister emphasised the importance for India and Africa of converting their youthful population into productive, skilled and empowered citizens.
Dr. Jaishankar highlighted India’s progress in the economy, infrastructure, digital technology and manufacturing. He stressed the need for India and Africa to turn their young populations into skilled and empowered citizens. He also underlined the importance of resilient supply chains for fuel, food, fertiliser and finance, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the voice of the Global South. He highlighted India’s vision of a reformed global order – “supportive of development, progress and prosperity of Africa and the Global South.”
Dr. Jaishankar said India’s partnership with Africa covers trade, infrastructure, capacity building, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, agriculture, health and clean energy. He also interacted with the Indian community and friends of India in Ghana. Later, he joined Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu in planting a Frangipani sapling under India’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and Ghana’s ‘Tree for Life’ initiatives.
