India’s defence production hits record Rs1.5 Lakh Crore in FY25

India’s annual defence production surged to an all-time high of Rs1,50,590 crore in the 2024-25 fiscal, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Saturday. The milestone represents an 18% rise over the previous fiscal’s output of Rs1.27 lakh crore.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country’s defence manufacturing has witnessed unprecedented growth. “The annual defence production has soared to an all-time high figure of Rs1,50,590 crore in the financial year 2024-25,” Singh said. “These numbers indicate a robust 18% growth over last year and a staggering 90% increase since 2019-20, when the figure stood at Rs79,071 crore.”Singh, in a social media post, credited the achievement to the “collective efforts” of the Department of Defence Production, defence public sector units, and private industry partners. He termed the milestone a “landmark” for India’s defence sector.“This upward trajectory is a clear indicator of India’s strengthening defence industrial base,” the minister said, emphasising the government’s continued focus on self-reliance in defence manufacturing through policy reforms, technology adoption, and export promotion.
