Relentless rains lashed South Gujarat since Saturday morning ,triggering flooding and widespread disruptions across several districts. Surat and Navsari were among the worst-hit, with Vansda taluka reporting the closure of 52 roads due to overflowing rivers and streams that submerged local causeways and disrupted transportation. The downpour, which began early Saturday, is part of a broader monsoon surge that entered Gujarat on June 16 and spread across the entire state in just 17 days. While the rains have replenished water bodies and rejuvenated the landscape, they have also caused considerable inconvenience to residents and authorities alike.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for 12 districts, warning of continued rainfall through July 11. The forecast predicts particularly heavy rain over South Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra, where a developing weather system is expected to intensify the ongoing downpour. The alert covers districts such as Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Dang, and Bhavnagar, among others. Authorities have been placed on high alert, with local disaster response teams monitoring river levels and assisting in maintaining connectivity in flood-affected zones.
Despite the challenges, the monsoon has painted a picturesque scene across the region, with lush greenery, mist-covered hills, and full water bodies drawing admiration from locals and visitors alike. However, the overflowing rivers, waterlogged roads, and travel disruptions have kept emergency services on their toes.Officials have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain indoors, avoid waterlogged routes, and follow updates from district administrations. Relief and control rooms have been activated in several districts to respond to weather-related emergencies. As monsoon intensifies across the state, the administration is bracing for more rain-induced challenges in the days ahead.
