Haryana ASI commits suicide, accuses deceased IPS officer of corruption

In Haryana, an ASI in Rohtak has allegedly committed suicide, accusing the deceased officer, Y Puran Kumar, of corruption, police said on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Lather, who was posted with the cyber cell of Rohtak Police. As per information, he allegedly shot himself dead in Rohtak district, leaving behind a six-minute purported video and a three-page suicide note levelling corruption allegations against the late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The veracity of the video and the statement could not be immediately verified. Police sources said ASI Sandeep Kumar played a role in the arrest of head constable Sushil Kumar, an aide of Puran Kumar who was an inspector general in Rohtak district and was found with a gunshot wound in his Chandigarh home last week. The body of the ASI, who was posted in the cyber cell, was recovered from his residence on the Ladhaut-Dhamar Road in Rohtak. In his video, ASI Sandeep expressed support to former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia who was shunted after the incident. In the video, Sandeep said that Bijarnia is an honest police officer.

"ASI Sandeep was a very hardworking and an honest person in our department. We received information that a body has been found after which we reached here," Rohtak Superintendent of Police S S Bhoria told reporters at the incident site. Asked about the video and the note, he said, "To say anything at this stage is difficult. The forensic team is investigating."

In his suicide note, the ASI called Kumar a "corrupt officer" and claimed to have "ample evidence" against him. He alleged that Kumar died by suicide out of fear of arrest and accused him of "hijacking the system by exploiting casteism." "I am demanding an investigation by sacrificing my life. This corrupt family should not be spared," the ASI wrote in his note.

IPS Y Puran Kumar was found dead from a gunshot wound at his residence in Chandigarh on October 7. In a detailed eight-page final note allegedly written by Kumar, he levelled serious accusations against eight senior IPS officers — including Kapur and Bijarniya — alleging severe caste-based bias, deliberate psychological harassment, public shaming, and systemic abuse.
