Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, speaking in Gandhinagar on Monday, stated that achieving India's target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 will require an estimated investment of Rs 30 lakh crore. Currently, the country's renewable energy capacity stands at 203 GW, he noted. Speaking to media in the state capital, Joshi said that PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fourth edition of the Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo (RE-INVEST) 2024, which is scheduled from Sep 16 to 18 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is the first RE-INVEST to be held in Gujarat. He said that India requires Rs 30 lakh crore investment to meet the ambitious target of having 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030. "We thought that Gujarat is the right place to organize the conference to achieve the target by 2030," he said, citing the example of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
Exploring the future of renewable energy, the expo will focus on key trends, cutting-edge technologies, and the policy frameworks driving global progress, with nearly 44 sessions planned, including a chief ministerial plenary, a CEO roundtable, and various technical panels.RE-INVEST is recognized internationally as a leading platform for connecting key players in the renewable energy sector, such as government officials, industry leaders, investors, researchers, and policymakers. A dedicated exhibition will spotlight the latest technologies and solutions in renewable energy, offering participants a glimpse into the industry's forefront. Earlier in the day, Joshi reviewed the progress of work to organize the event.
Representatives from countries like Germany, Australia, Norway, and Denmark, among others, will be attending the event. Sessions will cover a range of topics, including Green Hydrogen, innovative models for round-the-clock renewable energy, establishing India as a hub for battery energy storage, and mainstreaming offshore wind energy in the country.
