Heavy rains continue to lash several parts of Gujarat for the third consecutive day, severely affecting normal life. As many as 75 dams in the state are overflowing, while more than 45 have been put on high alert.The central government has deployed six columns of the Indian Army to assist in relief and disaster management efforts across the State. These columns will assist the local administrations in Devabhoomi Dwarka, Anand, Vadodara, Kheda, Morbi, and Rajkot. Rajkot has recorded over 20 inches of rain Schools have been closed and NDRF and SDRF teams are deployed to assist in flood affected areas.

Vishwamitri river, causing floods in the Manjalpur area of Vadodara city.Vadodara city has received 239.50 mm (9.43 inch) rainfall in the last 24 hours until 8 am.As per media reports, electricity supply has been turned off in 6500 of 10000 transformers in the city due to waterlogging. Vadodara Municipal Corporation has also closed the water pumps due to waterlogging in the supply facility.The relentless downpour has resulted in four fatalities – one person each from Morbi and Dahod, and two from Gandhinagar.

Road traffic is severely affected due to waterlogging and more than 400 bus routes and several highways have been closed. Senior public relations officer of Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway Jitendra Jayant said several trains have been cancelled due to waterlogging.The heavy rains have disrupted railway services significantly, particularly in the Vadodara division of Western Railway. On Tuesday alone, 56 trains were canceled due to severe waterlogging at key locations, including Bajwa and Ranoli. Severe waterlogging has occurred in Maninagar, Ahmedabad after heavy rains on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations is underway in the flood-affected districts people living in low-lying areas are being shifted to safer locations.T IMD has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rain for such places.
