Gujarat is increasingly attracting stakeholders, including the state government-run tourism board, as a manifestation of one of the most preferred tourist destinations in the country. Gujarat saw a 17% increase in tourist footfalls this year compared to last year, according to the Government of Gujarat. Between Apr 1 and June 10, 2024, during summer vacations, Gujarat’s 12 tourist attractions and pilgrimage sites welcomed over 1.97 crore tourists. This marked a 17% increase from 2023 when 1.14 crore tourists had visited these destinations during the same period. Popular attractions in Gujarat included the Statue of Unity (SoU), Atal Bridge, Riverfront-Flower Park, Kankaria Lake, Somnath Temple, Ambaji Temple, Pavagadh Temple, Dwarka Temple, Science City-Ahmedabad, Vadnagar, Gir and Devalia Safari, as well as the Ahmedabad Metro Railway, attracted a large number of visitors.
In line with this growing interest, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board recently organized a roadshow in Ahmedabad on Saturday, aimed at showcasing the state's rich tourism potential and drawing a larger number of visitors from Gujarat and beyond. The event served as a vibrant platform to highlight Madhya Pradesh's diverse cultural heritage, traditional arts, wildlife, and prominent tourist destinations. The roadshow also fostered collaboration with travel agents and tour operators from Gujarat, paving the way for new tourism products, services, and marketing strategies to enhance mutual cooperation. This initiative is part of a broader effort to boost tourism across India by promoting Madhya Pradesh’s unique offerings.
Tourism, Culture, Religious Trust, and Endowments Minister Dharmendra Lodhi emphasized the importance of promoting Madhya Pradesh’s magnificent tourist spots across the country. He noted that similar roadshows are being organized in various cities to enhance the visibility of Madhya Pradesh as a prime tourist destination.
The Ahmedabad roadshow offered a vivid presentation of Madhya Pradesh's diversity, with a special focus on its cultural heritage, traditional arts, and wildlife sanctuaries. Key tourist sites such as the historical temples of Khajuraho, the stupas of Sanchi, the natural beauty of Pachmarhi, and the famous Tiger Reserves of Kanha and Bandhavgarh were prominently featured.
In addition to these well-known attractions, the roadshow also promoted lesser-known, offbeat destinations such as Tamia, Mandsaur, Chanderi, Shivpuri, and Amarkantak. These serene, nature-centric locations offer tourists a peaceful retreat away from the crowds, enhancing the state’s appeal as a versatile travel destination.
The event also provided information about significant upcoming events in the state, including the 100th Tansen Music Festival, the 51st Khajuraho Dance Festival, and the Mahakaleshwar Royal Ride. These events are expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, further positioning Madhya Pradesh as a major cultural and tourist hub.
Furthermore, the roadshow emphasized the importance of B2B (business-to-business) meetings, where officials from the Tourism Board and Tourism Corporation engaged with travel agents, tour operators, and other stakeholders. These meetings aimed to forge stronger partnerships and collaborations to promote tourism in Madhya Pradesh.
During the event, various initiatives were discussed, including the Responsible Tourism Mission, the Safe Tourism Project for Women, the Homestay Scheme, and offbeat destinations, all designed to enrich the tourist experience in the state. These efforts align with Madhya Pradesh’s vision to expand its tourism footprint and offer visitors a wide array of experiences, from cultural immersion to nature exploration.
