FIH Hockey: India crash out of semifinal race after 3-5 loss to Argentina

India crashed out of the semi-final race of the Men's Hockey World Cup 2026 as they lost 5-3 to Argentina in their final Pool E match in Amstelveen. Three goals came in a frantic first quarter. Argentina's Joaquin Toscani opened the scoring after just 39 seconds, and Nicolas de la Torre doubled the lead a few minutes later. However, Sukhjeet Singh netted India's opening goal to reduce the deficit. 

In the third quarter, Argentina's Tomas Domene scored twice, and then Lucas Toscani slammed in their fifth goal in the fourth quarter. India scored two goals in the final two minutes, courtesy of Sukhjeet Singh and Hardik Singh, but they were nothing but consolations. The defeat sees India finish last in Pool E; they will play the seventh-place match against co-hosts Belgium on Friday.
