Anil Arora, the father of actresses Malaika and Amrita Arora, passed away on Wednesday, September 11. He jumped off the sixth floor of his building in Mumbai's Bandra where is lived. The reason for the suicide is still unknown. He was a retired official from Merchant Navy, and belonged to Punjab's Fazilka district.Malaika's parents, Joyce Polycarp and Anil Arora, got separated when she was 11 years old. After separation her mother solely took care of both the daughters, at that time Amrita was 6 years old. They relocated from Thane to Chembur after the separation. In one of the interviews given to a magazine, Malaika had once opened up on her parents’ separation. She had said, “My parents’ separation allowed me to observe my mother through a new and unique lens. I learned a rock-steady work ethic and the value of getting up each morning to do whatever it takes to become fiercely independent.” She had further said, “I had a wonderful childhood, but it wasn’t easy. In fact, in retrospect, the word I would use to describe it is tumultuous. But tough times teach you important lessons too.”
As soon as the news surfaced, Malaika's ex-husband, and actor and producer Arbaaz Khan was seen outside the building, talking to the police officials. Arbaaz's sister Alvira was also present on the spot. Though Malaika and Arbaaz are also separated, he has maintained cordial relations with her parents.
Reportedly, no confirmation of any suicide note is observed, and the matter is still under investigation. Neither Malaika nor Amrita has posted anything about the news on their social media handles.
