Czeck Republic begin its Euro Cup campaign in style. They beat Scotland 2-0 in a Group D match played on Monday. Patrick Schick scored both goals for his team. The highlight of this match was an unbelievable halfway line goal by Schick. This was his stunning shot from inside the Scotland half after the recess that will remain in the memory as one of the all time great European Championship goal.
Both teams made forays to take shot at the goalpost from early on the game but the first goal of the match came from Schick through a towering header to net the ball at the top corner of the goal post. Then his stunning shot doubled the Czech’s lead in the 52nd minute of the game. Scottish keeper David Marshall failed to judge the flight of the ball coming from Schick’s left foot in a sudden attack on goal from the half way mark.
After 23 years wait to qualify for major tournament, Scotland’s come back begins with defeat by the Czech Republic. Their hopes to qualify for next round from Group D now appears slim as they have to face England and Croatia in the upcoming clashes.
In Group E matches played on Monday, Slovakia beat Poland 2-1. While Spain vs Sweden game ends goalless draw.
