The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Wednesday conducted searches at several locations in Punjab’s Moga including the premises of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amandeep Kaur Arora, as part of a money-laundering probe into alleged illegal land grabbing.. The central agency swooped in on the residences and business offices of the MLA’s husband Rakesh Arora and other family members, as well as a de-addiction hospital associated with the former. The investigation stems from an FIR registered by Punjab Police in June 2024. It concerns alleged fraudulent mutation of government land acquired for National Highway 754A and wrongful disbursement of compensation in Moga district. The alleged irregularities also involve misappropriation of public funds, officials said.Arora, a doctor and state president of AAP’s women’s wing, was recently renominated from Moga in the party’s first list of 40 candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections. The land parcels included one belonging to the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Moga district, ED sources said, adding that the land in question was allegedly bought in a relative’s name before being sold off to another individual.
Elected from the Moga assembly constituency in the 2022 state elections, Kaur has since been appointed head of the party’s Punjab women’s wing. She had defeated actor Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood, who contested on a Congress ticket, by over 20,000 votes.Kaur is one of the prominent faces of the state’s Malwa region,
