Devajit Saikia elected new BCCI secretary

Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were on Sunday elected secretary and treasurer, respectively, unopposed at the BCCI Special General Meeting in Mumbai. They both were elected unopposed after being the only ones to file nomination for the posts vacated by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar.Saikia hails from Assam and Bhatia from Chhattisgarh. Saikia was performing the additional duties of secretary after Shah took over as ICC chairman on December 1. He was the joint secretary and now that post lies vacant.
Speaking to reporters after the SGM, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said apart from the election nothing was tabled in the meeting. “There was single point agenda (for the election of treasurer and secretary post). So nothing else was discussed at the SGM," Shukla.Following the SGM, Shukla was also part of Women’s Premier League Committee meeting.“The WPL venues have been almost finalised. They will be declared soon," said the BCCI vice-president.
As a former first-class cricketer, Saikia played four matches between 1990 and 1991, serving as a wicketkeeper. Although his cricketing career was relatively short, he managed to collect 53 runs and managed to exact 9 dismissals.Saikia's entry into cricket administration began in 2016 when he became one of the six vice presidents of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) under the presidency of Hemanta Biswa Sarma. He later became the ACA secretary in 2019.
