Delhi building collapse: Magisterial probe ordered, FIR filed

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Satya Niketan boys’ PG building collapse and directed that an FIR be filed against the building owner, following an on-site review and preliminary assessment."Those found responsible will be held fully accountable and dealt with under the strictest provisions of the law," said the CM.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said an FIR has been registered against building owner Hariram and others at the South Campus police station. The case has been registered under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued a precautionary notice to occupants of a building adjacent to the structure that collapsed in Satya Niketan, New Delhi, directing them to vacate the premises and demolish the property within three days. The order was issued under Section 348 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, read with Section 491 of the Act.
The civic body warned that if the order is not complied with within the stipulated period, the MCD will carry out the demolition itself. The demolition expenses will subsequently be recovered from the property owner as arrears of tax under the Act. The precautionary action comes after the collapse of a building in Satya Niketan, which triggered a rescue operation and raised concerns over the safety of other structures in the area.
