The Congress has categorically denied that the Gandhis - party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra - will resign at the meet. Ahead of the meeting, the Jharkhand Congress passed a resolution in support of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Congress Working Committee met on Sunday in New Delhi over the setback the party has faced in five states in this season of assembly elections. Neeting is being attended by Mallikarjun Kharge, Ambika Soni, Salman Khurshid, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra among other leaders. Sonia Gandhi chaired the meeting.Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Defence Minister AK Antony and three others skipped the meeting due to health reasons, Meetimg was going when the report was filed.
Meanwhie, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is also a G-23 leader, on Sunday posted data of the number of MLAs political parties have and said this is why the Congress remains by far the most credible of the opposition parties. Tharoor showed data that Congress has, to be specific, 753 MLAs, next to BJP that has 1,443MLAs.

Ahead of the meeting which was called to deliberate the poor performance of the party in the five states, Rajasthan chief minister Ashokh Gehlot said Rahul Gandhi shoud take the mantle of party chief as no one is countering PM Modi the way he is doing. Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar also backed the idea to make Gandhi the party chief.
