Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the idea of the Bharat Jodo Yatra is to involve hundreds of Congress workers. Addressing the media at Ernakulam during the Kerala leg of the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra, when asked why the yatra not spending more time in Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi said the Congress has a very clear view on what needs to be done there. The Kerala leg has been a success. People have been coming out regardless of their affiliation. The success of the Yatra is based on the fact that majority of the people appreciate that India is not at war with itself, he said.
The Yatra is designed to tell the people that they need to be united and go back to an India which was loving and affectionate to itself.

Gandhi said his piece of advice to those who may contest the party president's post is that it is not just an organisational post, but an ideological post, which represents a belief system and vision of India. Rahul Gandhi is currently in Kerala leading the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra. He commenced the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari on September 7. The yatra will conclude in Kashmir. It will cover a distance of 3,500 km and cross 12 states, taking roughly 150 days to complete. Gandhi said he backed the Congress's “one man, one post” rule, a sign that Ashok Gehlot, the frontrunner for Congress president, may not get to play a double role. “We have made a commitment in Udaipur, I expect that will be maintained,” Rahul Gandhi said
