UP CM hands appointment letters to 1,228 nursing officers

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday distributed appointment letters to 1,228 newly selected nursing officers, highlighting the state government’s resolve to strengthen the healthcare system and its commitment to “give wings” to the dreams of thousands of medical aspirants. Notably, 1,097 of the 1,228 nursing officers are women, while the remaining 131 are men.
Addressing the gathering after distributing the appointment letters, the Chief Minister said the move was a step towards women’s empowerment during the sacred festival of Chaitra Navratri. He said the newly appointed nursing officers would not only shape their own futures but also help write a new chapter of trust and empathy in the state’s healthcare services.
Referring to the large share of women among the appointees, he said, “It is a matter of immense pride for us that out of a total of 1,228 candidates, 1,097 are women. In the developmental journey of the past nine years, the double-engine government’s efforts to enhance the respect, security, and dignity of women are reflected in this number.” The Chief Minister also interacted with a few newly appointed candidates, who expressed joy and excitement at the start of their new professional journey.
He elaborated on the government’s efforts across sectors to increase employment opportunities, bridge economic and social gaps, and improve the healthcare system in particular. “Thirty-five ANM training centres that had ceased operations have been revived. Construction of 35 new nursing colleges is currently underway. The double-engine government has prioritised healthcare, and the positive outcomes of this approach are now visible,” he said. He added that a significant decline has been recorded in both maternal and infant mortality rates, with Uttar Pradesh now on par with the national average in this regard.
Taking a swipe at previous governments, the Chief Minister said that in the past, government departments were controlled by “mafia elements”. “The functioning of each department was dictated by such elements. Today, the state has moved beyond that era and is advancing towards the One District, One Medical College initiative. A medical college and a nursing college have now been established in every district,” he said.
