The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent and Inspector of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Santacruz Division, Mumbai for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs25,000/- from the complainant. CBI registered the case on October 7,2025 on allegations that the accused Superintendent Vikram and Inspector Lav Kumar Chittora demanded an undue advantage of Rs25,000/ for issuing a favourable report and facilitating GST registration of a private firm. The firm is engaged in the business of trading in textiles and had applied online for GST registration on September24,2025.
It was also alleged that during inspection on October 03,2025, the accused Inspector allegedly demanded the bribe for himself and his superior officer, threatening that the GST Registration Certificate would not be issued without such payment. CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount at the CGST West Mumbai Office. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused officers. Both the arrested accused were produced before the competent court at Mumbai.
