Boxer Lovlina Borgohain has bagged a Bronze Medal for the country in welterweight 69 kilogram category after she lost to World Champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in semi-finals on Wednesday. This is the third medal for the country. Earlier, PV Sindhu won a Bronze Medal in Badminton while Mira Bai Chanu lifted a Silver Medal in weightlifting. On the 12th day,Ravi Dahiya assured India of at least a silver medal in wrestling when he booked his place in the final of men's freestyle 57kg at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday. The 23-year-old wrestler was trailing Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan 7-9 in the semifinal when he pinned his opponent to be declared winner by fall. Dahiya made a remarkable comeback with only minute remaining in the bout after trailing 2-9 at one stage. It was during Dahiya's late rally that Sanayev suffered an injury.
He will be the fifth wrestler from India to win an Olympic medal after KD Jadhav (bronze in 1952), Sushil Kumar (bronze in 2008 and silver in 2012) and Yogeshwar Dutt (bronze in 2008) and Sakshi Malik (bronze in 2016). Ravi is a two-time Asian Championships gold medallist and a bronze medal winner at the World Championships in 2019. This could well be a watershed Games for Indian wrestling with both Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia also in contention.
