In Uttar Pradesh, ruling BJP has decided to have an electoral alliance with Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (NISHAD) party. Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev on Friday at a press conference,in Lucknow, gave the information about the alliance for the 2022 assembly polls with Sanjay Nishad-led NISHAD party. Under the leadership of Sanjay Nishad and our cadres, we will ensure that lotus (BJP’s election symbol) blooms again, he said.
Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was also present at the conference along with Nishad, said he can say that people have a lot of faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He added they will contest the elections under their leadership. Pradhan also said that the party was committed towards doubling the income of farmers. “We’re committed to double farmers’ income, be it by purchasing agriculture produce at MSP, promoting organic farming or spending Rs 1 lakh crores on farm marketing infrastructure.
Sanjay Nishad’s son, Praveen Nishad, won the 2018 Lok Sabha by-poll from Gorakhpur as a joint Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate. NISHAD allied with the BJP in the 2019 national polls when Praveen Nishad was re-elected to Lok Sabha from Sant Kabir Nagar. BJP earlier tied up with another OBC party Apna Dal for the 2022 polls. While the Nishad Party has a considerable following among the ‘nishad’ (fishermen) community members, who are in sizeable numbers in around six Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, the Apna Dal (S) of Anupriya Patel has influence among the OBC Kurmi community.
