BJP alleges religious conversion in Jharkhand

The prominent opposition party BJP in Jharkhand has alleged that the ruling UPA coalition is encouraging religious conversion in the state. The BJP MP  from Ranchi, Sanjay Seth raised the issue of buying and selling of children by Christian missionary organization Nirmal Hriday in Lok Sabha. There was a big disclosure in this regard in 2018 when  suddenly  the sale of hundreds of newborns was revealed. Seth disclosed that in  the name of adoption, newborns were bought and sold. He claimed that unmarried girls became mothers in the Missionary institution and it was unfortunate that most of them belonged to tribal communities.
Sanjay Seth said in the House that  a case was lodged  in this regard and  several arrests were made. In fact the then BJP government directed to investigate this sensitive issue. Seth alleged that after  the formation of the new government, the matter went into cold storage.Sanjay Seth said that during  lockdown, when people all over the country were connected to each other to serve the people suffering from this menace,  the missionaries were engaged in conversion by alluring poor  people  mostly tribals. Seth made it clear that  on 26 December 2017 RL Francis, a senior officer associated with Christian missionaries, has mentioned it in his article. Francis has clearly stated that Christian missionaries are working on the conversion policy under the guise of helping the weaker section of society..
Meanwhile,Jharkhand  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson  Pratul Shahdeo  has alleged that religious conversion of tribals has become rampant during the present government . He also   claimed that the coalition government has failed to check religious conversion and demanded strong action against individuals and groups involved in convertion.

On the other hand Father Fabianus Sinduria has refuted the claim of BJP and opined that "This not the first time that BJP and  its wings like Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has claimed that missionaries are involved in religious conversion. This is not true nor do they have any evidence to prove it," He said that the statement is political. They make such allegations so that they can remain in the media, and through it they can maintain contact with the people,"
Ratan Tirkey, a member of the Tribes Advisory Committee, Government of Jharkhand, also supported the stand of Christian Missionary and said that "They are making such allegations because they have no other issues to remain in the limelight. The time has come, and I urge our political and religious leaders to stand and show proof that there are no such cases in the state,"
