Ayush Ministry, IndiaAI partner to boost AI in traditional medicine

The Ministry of Ayush and the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the Ayush sector, with a focus on research, digital innovation, medicinal plants, drug administration and capacity building.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Ayush will onboard the AIKosh platform and share eligible health research artefacts, including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits and relevant use cases,according to agency rpeorts. The integration is expected to foster collaboration, encourage innovation and support the responsible development of AI-powered solutions for traditional medicine.
The partnership will also provide the Ministry of Ayush access to GPU-based high-performance computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI initiative at subsidised rates, subject to applicable service-level agreements. Officials said the advanced computing resources would help address critical infrastructure needs and accelerate the development and scaling of AI applications in healthcare and the Ayush ecosystem.The MoU was signed by Dr Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer, Ministry of Ayush, and Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer of the IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary, MeitY, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jain said the integration of AI with the Ayush ecosystem would open new avenues for evidence-based research, knowledge management and innovation.
She said the collaboration would enable the ministry to leverage advanced AI capabilities in areas such as research, medicinal plants, drug administration and capacity building, making the Ayush ecosystem more technology-driven and future-ready.Srivastava said the partnership reflects the growing importance of integrating modern technologies with India's traditional knowledge systems. He added that the collaboration would enrich the AIKosh platform with traditional healthcare datasets while supporting researchers and practitioners through AI-enabled innovation.Naman Goyal, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Ayush Grid, said the platform is developing AI-driven solutions under its Emerging Technologies component to accelerate the digital transformation of the Ayush sector. He described the MoU as a significant milestone in expanding the adoption of Artificial Intelligence across the Ayush ecosystem.
