6 Assam police jawans killed as border clashes with Mizoram escalates

Six Assam Police jawans were killed in Assam-Mizoram bordeviolence on Monday. CMs of both states to seek the home minister's intervention in the matter. Several people, including jawans of the Assam Police, have been reportedly injured in the violence along the border in Assam’s Cachar district. Home Minister Amit Shah has dialled both Chief Ministers and asked them to resolve the border issue, to which they have agreed. The Chief Ministers of both states clashed on Twitter, and tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah in their posts.Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday took to Twitter to express his concern after reports of firing and unrest breaking out at the Assam-Mizoram border surfaced. Sarma posted a video tagging Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga saying that unidentified persons have threatened to create unrest at the border.

Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga, on the other hand, tweeted with a video that showed a couple returning to Assam via Cachar were allegedly manhandled.

Three Mizoram districts - Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit - share a 164.6 km long inter-state border with Assam's Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts. There have been skirmishes at the "disputed" areas of the border for years, with the residents on both sides accusing each other of intrusion.
