Senior IAS officer Anurag Jain on Monday assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog, bringing with him nearly four decades of experience in public administration, policymaking and governance, according to agency reports.A 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Jain succeeds in leading the government's premier public policy think tank at a time when it is focusing on long-term economic growth and development strategies.NITI Aayog announced his appointment through a post on X, welcoming him as the institution's new CEO.

Jain has held several key positions at both the state and central levels. He previously served as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and also held important portfolios in the Union government, including Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
His extensive experience in infrastructure, industrial policy, economic development and administration is expected to strengthen NITI Aayog's role in policy formulation and implementation.As CEO, Jain will be responsible for supporting the government's development agenda and enhancing coordination between the Centre and states.His appointment was approved earlier by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).Jain will serve a two-year term or until further orders, whichever is earlier, under the same terms and conditions applicable to his predecessor.Earlier this year, economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri was appointed as the Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, replacing Suman K. Bery.
