Allahabad HC quashed entire criminal proceedings against Dr Kafeel

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday quashed the entire criminal proceedings pending against BRD Medical College Gorakhpur's suspended Dr Kafeel Khan. A FIR was lodged against him over his speech given about CAA and NRC at a protest meeting at Aligarh Muslim University in December 2019. Justice Gautam Chaudhary has passed the order following hearing the case. In this matter, National Security Act was also invoked by the State government against Dr.Kafeel. Last year the Allahabad High Court had quashed the detention of Dr.Khan under NSA observing that his speech was actually a call for national integration.
A FIR was lodged against Dr. Khan and subsequently he was arrested from Mumbai. Later on NSA was slapped against him. Charge sheet was filed against Dr. Kafeel in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Aligarh, in March 2020. The Court had summoned him to face the trial in the case. Dr.Khan had moved High Court seeking quashing of the criminal proceedings and the cognizance order.
