160 illegal Bangladeshi nationals sent back from Bengaluru

In Karnataka, as many as 160 Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in Bengaluru and neighbouring districts have been deported to their country, following completion of legal formalities, police said on Thursday. The deportation operation was jointly coordinated by the police and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, the deportation process happened on Wednesday.
“This is the second time we are deporting Bangladeshi nationals by flight. Earlier, a few Bangladeshis were deported on regular flights. But this time, since they were in large numbers, a special flight was arranged. They are also being transported through other modes to the border,” a senior officer said a few police personnel, including six officers, escorted the Bangladeshis on the flight, which departed from HAL airport. The flight will land at the BSF battalion concerned on the border.
FRRO had written a letter to the DCP, Intelligence, Bengaluru, on Sept 18, requesting the deputation of police personnel for escort duty. The Bangladeshis were in designated shelter homes and holding facilities across Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru and Gadag. Officials say many were apprehended across Bengaluru’s eastern and southern stretches, including areas like Bellanduru, Beguru, Varthuru, Bandepalya and Marathahalli, as part of a wider crackdown that also covers other parts of Karnataka.  This follows earlier, smaller-scale deportations from the city; for example, 31 Bangladeshi nationals were escorted out by Electronics City division police on August 31.
Meanwhile, a video circulating from Bengaluru shows several men holding small work tokens and speaking about employment in sanitation and waste collection under BBMP or its contractors. The clip has been shared as evidence that Bangladeshi nationals have obtained municipal work in the city.
