PM Modi hails launch of Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his delight over the launch of the Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, calling it a significant step toward realising India's vision of a Viksit Bharat. In a post shared on X, PM Modi said, "Delighted by the launch of the Google AI Hub in the dynamic city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This multi-faceted investment that includes gigawatt-scale data center infrastructure aligns with our vision to build a Viksit Bharat." PM Modi further said that the new AI hub will play a key role in democratizing technology and advancing the government's goal of AI for All. "It will be a powerful force in democratizing technology. It will also ensure AI for All, delivering cutting-edge tools to our citizens, boosting our digital economy, and securing India's place as a global technology leader," he stated.
Earlier, Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared details about the company's first-ever Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam. Pichai said he discussed the project with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted how it will help accelerate AI innovation and support India's growing digital economy. "This hub combines gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure. Through it we will bring our industry leading technology to enterprises and users in India, accelerating AI innovation and driving growth across the country," he added.
Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the new gigawatt-scale AI hub announced by Google in Andhra Pradesh will go a long way in meeting the goals of the India AI mission. Speaking at the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, Mr Vaishnaw said, the AI hub will contribute to the India AI mission in many ways. He said, AI is fundamentally changing the way the world functions today. He urged Google for re-skilling and up-skilling IT professionals at a large scale. The Minister also underlined that AI services are emerging as a major category in the digital economy. He also said that the facility must be used in developing the talent, youth and employment potential of the country in AI services.  
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also hailed the launch of the AI hub during the event. The Finance Minister asserted, the launch of this project reflects the harmony between progressive policy-making and the dynamism in governance decision-making.  
Google has announced a massive investment of 15 billion US dollars over the next five years to establish one gigawatt-scale Artificial Intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This is the company’s largest AI hub centre outside the United States.
