One Nation One Election, UCC soon: PM Modi on Unity Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat on the birth anniversary of the country’s first home minister.Since 2014, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary has been celebrated on October 31 as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’, or National Unity Day.He also administer the Ekta Diwas pledge to the people and witnessed Ekta Diwas Parade. This year’s Ekta Divas Parade comprises 16 marching contingents from 9 States and 1 UT Police, 4 Central Armed Police Forces, NCC and a marching band. Special attractions of the parade include Hell March contingent of NSG, daredevil show by BSF and CRPF women and men bikers. A show on combination of Indian Martial Arts by BSF, piped band show by school children, and ‘Surya Kiran’ flypast by Indian Air Force, are also the attractions of the parade.

Later, addressing a gathering PM Modi said, the discriminatory policies and intent of previous governments weakened national unity. Over the past 10 years, the new governance model has eliminated discrimination. Modi alleged that  for 70 years, Baba Saheb Ambedkar's Constitution was not implemented in the entire country. Those who chant the name of the Constitution had insulted it so much. The reason was the wall of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 has been buried forever. For the first time, voting was done without discrimination in this assembly election. For the first time, the Chief Minister of that place has taken oath on the Constitution of India. This scene must have given immense satisfaction to the makers of the Indian Constitution, their souls must have found peace and this is our humble tribute to the makers of the Constitution."We are now working towards 'One Nation One Election', which will strengthen India's democracy, give the optimum outcome of India's resources and the country will gain new momentum in achieving the dream of a developed India. Today, India is moving towards 'One Nation One Civil Code', which is a secular civil code," he said.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated on October 31 each year to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, recognising his pivotal role in India’s independence movement and in unifying the nation.
