In Gujarat, 48 dams in the state are overflowing and have been put on high alert. Sardar Sarovar Dam largest dam in the state has reached 60 percent of its storage capacity. Following the torrential rains in South Gujarat, the Water level is also rapidly increasing in the Ukai Dam one of the largest dams in the South Gujarat region.As per reports, 34 are full in the range of 70 to 100 percent, 25 are full in 50 to 70 percent ratio, 40 dams are full in 25 to 50 percent range, 59 are full below 25 percent. 57 dams are on high alert, 13 are on alert and 12 are on warning.
The authorities are keeping a close watch on dams. The water level in the Madhuban dam on the Damanganga river has reached 73.95m while the maximum water level is 79.86m. Inflows into the dam were at 65,203 cusecs on Saturday evening, after which the discharge from the dam was increased to 85,353 cusecs. Ten gates were opened by up to 2 metres.Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in some parts of the state, especially in the South Gujarat region including Surat Navsari Valsad and Daman Dadra Nagar Haveli on Thursday and light rains in all parts of the state for the next two days.
