Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman,on an official visit to Mexico and the USA from 17th to 26th October 2024, chaired a key Tech Leaders Roundtable in Guadalajara, Mexico on Thursday. The roundtable aimed at enhancing technological cooperation between India and Mexico, underscoring the growing ties between the two nations in innovation, trade, and investment. The event, held at the Chamber of Commerce in Guadalajara, was organized by the Mexican Association of the Information Technology Industry and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Mexico and the Department of Economic Affairs. The meeting brought together global technology leaders and representatives from major Indian IT companies operating in the region to explore ways to strengthen partnerships in technology and innovation.
Sitharaman emphasized the importance of technology as a driver of economic growth, highlighting India’s robust IT sector and the shared opportunities for both nations to collaborate in this field. She underscored the potential for deepening ties through joint ventures, knowledge sharing, and the transfer of technological expertise to boost trade and investment between India and Mexico. “The collaboration between India and Mexico in the technology sector will not only spur innovation but will also create avenues for expanding our economic relationship. The discussions set the stage for a future where both countries can mutually benefit from each other’s strengths,” Sitharaman reportedly stated.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the roundtable’s discussions focused on bolstering cooperation in key areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development through technology. Indian IT companies present in the region, such as TCS, have been pivotal in establishing strong ties in Mexico, contributing to job creation and the digitalization of industries.
The Mexican technology sector, which has been rapidly growing, offers vast opportunities for collaboration with India’s globally recognized IT industry. The talks also centered on expanding market access for Indian firms and fostering technological exchange to support innovation-driven economic growth.
