The ED have recovered at least Rs 29 crore in cash and five kilograms of gold jewellery from the from the Belgharia residence of Arpita Mukherjee in North 24-Parganas. This is said to be the second flat of Arpita Mukherjee. The counting went on until Thursday early morning. The total cash recovered from her premises now amounts to Rs 50 crore, the agency said. Arpita is a close aide of arrested West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, during a raid conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that went on for 18 hours. The ED officials used three note counting machines to know the exact amount of cash seized and officials left Arpita Mukherjee's home in the Belgharia early on Thursday morning with 10 trunks of cash. Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee were arrested on July 23, a day after the first lot of cash was seized from her home.
It has been found that Partha Chatterjee owns a large number of flats, many of which he has gifted to his ‘close aides’ including Arpita Mukherjee and another woman named Monalisa Das. Arpita Chatterjee has told the ED that Partha Chatterjee used her flat as a ‘mini bank’. It is suspected that the flats gifted to Monalisa Das also were used for the same purpose.
