A Pakistani national, who was arrested from east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area a day ago, was remanded in 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday. The remand order was given by chief metropolitan magistrate Pankaj Sharma at the Patiala House Court. Earlier,Delhi Police has arrested a terrorist from Laxmi Nagar area of the national capital and foiled a major terror plan in the city and seized an AK-47 rifle from his possession on Monday. The Police said that, the arrested terrorist is a Pakistani National who was staying on a fake identity on forged documents.In view of the festive season, Delhi Police has beefed up anti terror alert and action across the city. The police seized one extra magazine and 60 rounds, one hand grenade and two sophisticated pistols with 50 rounds.
The accused, identified as Mohd Asraf, has been booked under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Act, Arms Act, and other provisions. He was a big part of the Sleeper Cell. Asraf is a resident of Narowal in Pakistan's Punjab province. A search has been conducted at his present address at Ramesh Park in Delhi's Laxmi Nagar. He was arrested by the police on Monday night.
Delhi Police Special Cell's Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha on Tuesday said that the suspected terrorist,had most likely entered India through the Bangladesh border touching Siliguri. Mohammad Ashraf made a fake ID in Bihar and also got married to a woman in Vaishali, Ghaziabad," the DCP said in a press conference after the arrest. The police said that although they are still verifying the details, Mohammad Ashraf was staying in India from atleast a decade. In Delhi, Mohammad Ashraf stayed in two locations — Old Delhi and Laxmi Nagar."Mohammad Ashraf joined the terrorists after his Class 10 exams and was given six months' training. He lived in India in various places — Ajmer, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Jammu, Udhampur," Pramod Kushwaha said. The police confirmed that Mohammad Ashraf's passport was made in 2014. "He has changed at least 5-6 addresses and was using various social media apps to stay in touch with his Pakistan handler. He even made multiple fake identities," Pramod Kushwaha said. Mohammad Ashraf also used his fake Indian passport to visit Thailand and Saudi Arabia, the police said.
