My perception has changed: Maninee De

Maninee De is currently leading a very busy professional life as she can be seen as Rajrani in Udaariyaan, and as baby bua in Dalchini produced by Ravie Dubey and Sargun Mehta’s Dreamiyata Entertainment. The actress who has appeared in over 40 TV shows shared that trolls no longer affect her when she plays an antagonist on-screen.“Earlier, I used to get affected by trolling, but now my perception has changed 180 degrees. I see it as every abuse given to me or every bad comment, unless it gets personal, is like an award for me. I perform so beautifully, and I'm such an effortless actor that people appreciate me in this negative avatar. I look at it from a holistic perspective. It doesn't affect me unless it gets very personal,” she said.
Sharing her views on shows taking a leap and the pressure the new cast faces, she said, “They do face challenges, but I think it's crucial to understand that this is the nature of the game, and you have to adapt and assimilate. Also, understand the structure as you enter, the protocols, and the dynamics. I joined the show from day one, so it wasn't like I was there right from the inception. I did not face it and about the leap you need to get context about your character.”
“You need to understand the story's present state, moving the new story forward. Essentially, you have to do everything in your capacity as an actor to create something of value, something that gets people invested and engaged with your show. Apart from that, the story is about the hero,” she added. But even if her character graph changes, it’s easy for Maninee to adapt to it. “It’s just that you need to make me understand why I am doing what I am doing. So, I question things in a long way. I need to understand the character's arc, where she is going, and her motivations. I am a very adaptable person,” she added.
And she is able to switch from her character in “Dalchini” to that of “Udaariyan”, as soon as she leaves the set. She added, “When I go to ‘Udaariyan’, I suddenly become somebody else. And when I come to ‘Dalchini’, I'm somebody else. So I'm very good at transitioning. That's a skill set.”So how you manage doing two daily soaps? “I only work for 12 hours. Within those 12 hours, I have tons of scenes on both the sets. I think I've just been very blessed. Also, I'm a very spirited person, extremely driven, and a workaholic. I love my work. It never tires me unless it's a very cold day or a very hot day or too much to remember, too much to speak. But, I find fun in every place. I find my joy. I create joy. I don't wait or expect others to do that for me,” Maninee ended.

Late music composer Naushad’s granddaughter Umarah Ali and husband Daanish Khan head for the hills

Late music composer Naushad’s granddaughter Umarah Naushad Ali and her husband Dubai-based Daanish Khan, recently took off to Himachal Pradesh for their honeymoon. The newlyweds stayed in a glass Igloo, calling it an unforgettable experience. “It was one of the unforgettable experiences of living in a glass igloo. The nightly views of the sky and daytime vistas of the Himalayas was an unforgettable experience. One of the most exquisite experiences is reclining in a Jacuzzi with your partner, gazing at the snow-draped mountains during the day. My wife, Umarah, discovered the place while browsing Instagram reels, and thanks to her, we embarked on this trip. We stayed at the Infinity Sky Glamping, a boutique hotel nestled in Himachal Pradesh, 30 minutes away from the bustling town of Manali. It is truly a hidden gem. We were one of the very few who got to experience this as it opened just a month ago,” says Daanish.
He adds, “The staff members are incredibly friendly and dedicated, embodying the spirit of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava.’ The owners personally greeted and welcomed us, and meeting Mango, the friendly husky, added to the charm of the experience. Umarah, being an animal lover, couldn't resist petting her. It's definitely a must-visit place in Manali, offering a unique and heartwarming experience.”
Talking about his love for the mountains. “I've always had a deep affection for the mountains, and it was my brother Yasser, who first introduced me to the wonders of Himachal Pradesh, back in 2018. In our family, he's fondly dubbed the ‘Brand Ambassador of Himachal Pradesh’ because every year he ensures to explore a new destination within the region. When it came time to plan our honeymoon, my fiancé and I considered various options both within India and abroad,” he says.
He adds, “A pivotal moment came during a conversation with my father-in-law, Mr Rehman Naushad, who shared insights about Dilip Kumar Sahab's perspective on tourism in India. Dilip Saab believed that our country offers everything one could desire for shooting or tourism—beaches, greenery, mountains, and jungles—all within our borders. He emphasised the importance of spending money within our own country to support local economies and generate employment.”
He says that Indian destinations have been designed to be very travel-friendly for tourists. “Inspired by this, we made the decision to embark on this new chapter of our lives in our homeland. Despite concerns about the aftermath of the floods that hit Manali in September 2023, the proactive efforts of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Board, the state government, and the Honourable Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Suku ensured smooth travel for tourists like us,” he says.
Sharing the experience of his travel, he says, “I also want to debunk the misconceptions spread through social media feeds, urging travellers to trust their instincts rather than sensationalised reports. Despite warnings of heavy traffic, we took a leap of faith and were pleasantly surprised to find clear roads even during peak hours. This experience reinforced my belief in the immense potential for promoting tourism within India. A special shoutout to our guide and driver, Sunny Paji, whose dedication ensured our journey was as smooth and safe as possible. These unsung heroes deserve recognition from both us and the government for their tireless efforts and the responsibility they shoulder on the roads, ensuring passengers reach their destinations safely.”

Sapna Sikarwar gets teary-eyed at her sister Maansi's wedding

Sapna Sikarwar, seen as Bimlesh in &TV’s Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, is currently in her hometown, Ratlam, attending her sister Maansi’s wedding. Speaking about the three-day-long wedding celebration, Sapna Sikarwar shares, “Weddings, especially Indian weddings, are a grand affair, with so many ceremonies including Haldi, Sangeet, Mehendi, Engagement, and Wedding Reception so one had to find perfect outfits for each of these. And when it is a family wedding and that of a close relative, it is always exciting and hectic. One not only has to make a lot of arrangements but also be fully decked up for every ceremony. Preparing for my sister's wedding involved various tasks to ensure a smooth and memorable celebration. It was a hectic month as I did lots of shopping for myself and my daughter Manya after shoots. We had an amalgamation of their cultural attire for the South Indian theme sangeet ceremony. Finding a Perfect Kanjivaram saree was quite a task. I went from store to store, and finally, on the 10th store visit, I found the perfect saree for her Sangeet ceremony. With God’s grace, everything went smoothly and very well. Following the traditional Hindu customs, we started with the Mehendi ceremony, a burst of colours and joy. The air was filled with the fragrance of henna as intricate designs unfolded on her hands. As the Mehendi dried, it left behind beautiful patterns and the essence of a day filled with love and anticipation for the wedding. The next day featured the Haldi ceremony, a day painted in hues of turmeric. Our friends and family gathered, smearing the golden paste on the bride, symbolising blessings and prosperity for the couple. Everyone looked beautiful and happy, shining bright in yellow. In the evening, my sister's Sangeet was steeped in the vibrant traditions of South India. All our family members wore traditional Mysore silk sarees and embellished jewellery, while the men wore dhotis and silk shirts. Hats off to me for making my husband dance to Bollywood remixes like ‘Phir aur kya chahiye, Aapke aajane se, Rafta Rafta,’ and many more in front of all the relatives (laughs). It was a memorable moment dancing together after many years. My husband and I spent days rehearsing, and the moment was extremely special, with everyone cheering and applauding.”
She adds, “The final day of the wedding festivities was packed with events: an engagement ceremony in the morning, agni pheras in the afternoon, and a reception party in the evening. I particularly loved my appearance at the reception; my purple lehenga was a marvel of traditional beauty. Its rich fabric boasted intricate embroidery and sequins, complemented by elegant jewellery and accessories. The purple colour scheme lent an air of sophistication to the entire ensemble. It was no surprise that my sister looked radiant and joyous—it was a momentous day for us all. Witnessing her younger sibling's wedding is an extraordinary milestone for any older sister. The sight of her in her bridal finery filled me with overwhelming emotion. Seeing my sister's happy countenance as she married the man of her dreams brought me immense joy. I am confident that he will only add to her happiness. Though I couldn't help but feel emotional during her Bidaai, I was also filled with happiness as I watched her embark on this beautiful journey with her soulmate.” Watch Sapna Sikarwar as Bimlesh in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan at 10:00 pm, airing every Monday to Friday only on &TV!
