Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has requested the Government of India to withdraw Karan Johar's Padma Shri award. In a tweet, Kangana alleged that Karan Johar has in the past ‘openly intimidated’ her, ‘supported Pakistan’ through his movies, and has now made an ‘anti-national film’,referring to Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. She also accused Karan Johar of abetment of suicide in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Karan Johar was awarded the Padma Shri in January this year, along with Kangana Ranaut. The Padma Shri is India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan.
According to experts,Regulation No 10 of Statutes and Rules relating to Padma Awards states that the President may cancel and annul the award of the decoration to any person. The notice of the cancellation is required to be published in the Gazette of India.
