Nivedita Basu: True to our name, ‘Atrangii’, our content always stands apart
The world of OTT might be tough and unpredictable, but one must continue to make content that is different, says Nivedita Basu, senior VP group-Atrangii. With shows such as Kiss Ishq N Konnections (KINK) as well as their brand new show Baghin, Nivedita is confident that Atrangii will continue to grow in popularity and be known for unique entertainment.
“Atrangii has always been coming up with out of the box content, and now with shows such as Kiss Ishq N Konnections as well as Baghin, we have clearly kicked it out of the park. I can proudly say that Atrangii is going places. You have watched Kiss Ishq N Konnections, that's when we had kick started our vision of what we want to do with Atrangii. With Divya coming in, syndication of Johri with MX Player and now Baghin on Star Bharat, we have grown by leaps and bounds. So, I think now people know what Atrangii is all about,” she says.
She adds, “Baghin is a fresh show which we are doing from Atrangii on Star Bharat. It's a big milestone for us. I am curious to see how the collaboration will go further. But yes, one thing is certain, true to our name, Atrangii, our content always stands apart.”Ask her what she feels is a sure shot win on OTT, and she says, “OTT is unpredictable, if I may say so! There is no particular thing which is a sure shot hit on OTT. So, in the end, the whole game is quite expensive. I think that's where we are far better than any other platform or channel. If you can make a particular content at a particular cost and it doesn't pinch the maker, there will be regular content coming in, and there will be visibility across.”
Talking about how she balances creative aspects of content with the business side of her platform, she says, “There is always a fight between the creative and the business side. Talking about the owner of Atrangii, Mr Vibhu Agarwal; coming from a business background, he is amazing when it comes to monetizing the cost. Things were different earlier because we were working with bigger productions and bigger channels. And so, we always got the free hand of making content with a particular cost. But now, the game was to make the content which would be saleable and cost-effective. So, I try to strike a balance considering I handle the business side of it and the content side of it as well. But it's exciting like I said. The name 'Atrangii' and the kind of content we are doing, it's not probably any other platform which would pick up content like this. So, I think that's where we stand out. In such record time, we even managed to come in the top 10 entertainment apps of the country.”

Ashok, will also feature Guru Randhawa, Anupam Kher, Saiee Manjrekar and Atul Srivastava, Ila Arun and Paritosh Tripathi in important characters. Sharing details on the film and his role Abhinandan says, "The core team of the film contacted me for an audition. Following that, I underwent a screen test. After 16-17 days, another screen test was scheduled, and within 3 days, I received the confirmation. That's how I secured the role. I had received a brief overview of the character beforehand and thoroughly enjoyed the audition process.”
The film has an ensemble cast - actors Anupam Kher, Paritosh Tripathi, Paresh Ganatra and Ila Arun are there in important roles. Abhinandan shares, "I've always emphasized and maintained that the impact of your work in any film or series is crucial. The significance lies in how impactful your character is on the storyline. While the star cast includes notable names like Anupam Kher ji, youth icon Guru Randhawa, Ila Arun Ji, and Paritosh Tripathi, the narrative revolves around these individuals. My character plays a pivotal role, and its importance cannot be revealed until you watch the movie. My role involves facilitating someone in achieving the primary goal, which is the central theme of the movie. The entire sequence is centered around my character, and the plot is carefully crafted to ensure the heroine attains her goal.”
Abhinandan who is known for his quest for perfection as an actor, shares what exactly prompted him to take up this role. He says, "I have always held a strong belief that when I'm on the set, I approach my work with utmost seriousness and professionalism. There is profound silence and a sense of gravity when I step onto the floor. It's not out of fear but rather out of respect. Even the crew members, from the spot dada to the makeup dada, know that I complete my work efficiently, allowing us to wrap up early. Being a talented actor isn't enough; I put in considerable effort for the payment I receive. Working alongside great and seasoned actors naturally creates a serious environment on the set, and that is a cherished aspect I carry with me. Sharing screen with Anupam Kher ji has been an amazing experience. It was feeling like an achievement of a lifetime. His depth as an actor is like an ocean, and witnessing his realistic performances is truly fantastic. Working with such stars is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I hope to collaborate with him more in the future. Guru Randhawa is incredibly humble and down-to-earth. Our strong bond on set was further strengthened by our shared Punjabi roots. Ila Arun Ji appreciated my work and emphasized that the audience is evolving and I should focus on films.“
Abhinandan who has a 9-years acting career had to wait for this film to happen very patiently. He adds,”It was quite challenging. It's not difficult when you acknowledge that you lack talent and cannot achieve a particular thing. Then you don't feel upset about it. However, it becomes disheartening when you possess the talent, know you can do it, but struggle to secure opportunities. I used to experience that feeling, but now I've managed to make a modest entry through this film. I am hoping and praying that audiences should look into my honest performance and makers should consider me for other meaty roles.”
