The domestic share market traded on a positive note on Wednesday amid fresh geopolitical concerns after US President Donald Trump's comments on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
The Reserve Bank of India held rate steady at 5.25 per cent and maintained neutral stance in line with market expectation.The central bank projected India's GDP growth at 6.7 per cent for the current financial year. The headline inflation for the current financial year was forecasted at 5 per cent, compared to the earlier estimate of 5.1 per cent.
At close the the Nifty rose 0.04 per cent or 9.75 points to 24,624.65 and the Sensex ended 152.05 points or 0.19 per cent higher at 78,581.00.
Shriram Finance, Grasim Industries, and JSW Steel were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included ITC, HCL Technologies and Coal India which fell up to 1 percent.On the sectoral front,the Nifty Metal, the Nifty Realty, and the Nifty Auto outperformed, while the Nifty Private Bank and the Nifty Bank underperformed. In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap ended 0.18 per cent and 0.7 per cent higher, respectively
Rupee Close:
On 5 Aug'26,the rupee gained 13 paise to settle at 95.15 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday after the Reserve Bank of India kept the key policy rate unchanged for the third time in a row in FY27 amid the West Asia crisis.Forex traders said investor sentiment was supported by an overnight decline in crude oil prices and the weakness of the American currency in the overseas market.Moreover, a decline in US Treasury yields also supported the rupee.
