The domestic share market indices traded lower on Monday as selling pressure in IT and FMCG shares weighed on investor sentiment. At close, Sensex was down 281.09 points or 0.36 per cent to 77,728.16 and the Nifty settled 78.35 points or 0.32 per cent down at 24,287.65.
Inox Wind, Motilal Oswal, Oberoi Realty, Suzlon Energy,Ashok Leyland were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Infosys, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, and HCL Technologies.On the sectoral front, the Nifty IT declined nearly 2 per cent and became the worst performer. Meanwhile, the Nifty Metal and the Nifty Realty rose the most, according to agency reports.In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap ended 0.05 per cent and 0.36 per cent higher, respectively.
Rupee Close:
On 17 Aug'26, the Indian rupee ended 17 paise lower at Rs 95.61 per dollar on Monday,after Reserve Bank of India (RBI) shortened the deadline for its discounted forex swap facility for non-resident deposits, raising concerns over future dollar inflows, according to agency reports. Forex traders said investors’ sentiment turned cautious after the Reserve Bank of India on August 14 said that its swap facility for FCNR (B) deposits will be available only for deposits mobilised till August 31. Earlier, the cut-off date for Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) or FCNR (B) deposits was September 30.
