India’s textile exports rise 16.1% to Rs29,776 cr in Aug 2026

India’s textile exports recorded strong growth in August 2026, rising 16.1 per cent year-on-year to Rs29,776 crore, compared with Rs25,656 crore in the same month last year stated agency reported.According to the Ministry of Textiles,the sector maintained positive momentum across major textile segments, reflecting growing demand and improving competitiveness in global markets.
During April-August 2026, cumulative textile exports reached Rs1.43 lakh crore, registering a 10.3 per cent increase over the corresponding period of the previous year.The growth in August was broad-based. Exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products increased 24.1 per cent, while man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups grew 19.9 per cent. Carpet exports rose 15 per cent, while handicrafts, excluding handmade carpets, recorded particularly strong growth of 41.4 per cent. Ready-made garments of all textiles also grew 6.1 per cent during the month.
The cumulative April-August performance remained encouraging, with cotton textiles growing 18 per cent, man-made textiles 13.6 per cent, carpets 11.9 per cent and handicrafts 44 per cent.The Ministry of Textiles said the sustained growth across major segments reflects the increasing competitiveness and diversification of India’s textile export basket.It added that the growth is being supported by improved market access, policy interventions and continued efforts towards value addition and market diversification. The textile sector remains a key contributor to India’s manufacturing base, employment and overall export performance.
