FM Nirmala Sitharaman reaches Qatar for AIIB annual meeting

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Doha on Monday to participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the AIIB Investors Dialogue 2026, the Finance Ministry said.
Sitharaman was received at Hamad International Airport by Srikar Reddy Koppula, Ambassador of India to Qatar.“The Union Finance Minister is scheduled to participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the AIIB Investors Dialogue 2026 in Doha over the next two days,” the Finance Ministry said in a post on X.

Sitharaman will attend the AIIB annual meeting in her capacity as India’s Governor to the multilateral development bank. India is the second-largest shareholder in AIIB.During her visit, the Finance Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with AIIB President and her counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Nepal,according to agency reports.She is expected to call on the leadership of the Qatari government and engage with Qatari business leaders and investors.
The AIIB is a multilateral development bank focused on financing infrastructure projects, including clean energy, transport, digital networks and water systems. Headquartered in Beijing, the bank began operations in January 2016 with an initial capital of $100 billion and has 111 approved members.India and Qatar also share strong energy ties. Under a 20-year LNG agreement between Petronet LNG and QatarEnergy, India is set to receive 7.5 million tonnes of LNG annually from 2028 to 2048.
