President Droupadi Murmu accorded a ceremonial welcome to the President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday January 16, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present on the occasion. Addressing the media at the event, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam highlighted that both countries are exploring new initiatives in sustainability and digital space. He emphasised the possibility of a data corridor for financial institutions between GIFT City in Gujarat and Singapore and another renewable energy corridor between both countries. He added that both countries are now looking to upgrade these active relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership and exploring new initiatives such as cooperating and advancing manufacturing in semiconductors, new generation and NET ZERO Industrial parks. President Tharman said the relationship between both countries in Business, Defence, and Skilling has been active for many years. He mentioned that India was one of the first few countries to recognise Singapore’s independence in 1965 and the relationship between both countries has grown since then. Shanmugaratnam also visited Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
