In Ghana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) in Accra on Thursday, July 3, 2025, accompanied by Ghana’s Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. The memorial is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian leader, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The complex is where the independence of Ghana was declared from British colonial rule in 1957. The KNMP’s mausoleum houses the bodies of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah. The building is meant to represent an upside-down sword, which in Akan culture is a symbol of peace. The mausoleum has a black star at its apex to symbolise unity.PM Modi laid a floral wreath and observed a moment of silence at the mausoleum. The tribute underlined India’s longstanding respect for Ghana’s rich anti-colonial legacy and reflected the enduring ties between the two nations.The memorial, designed by architect Don Arthur, stands as a symbol of Dr. Nkrumah’s pivotal role in leading the Gold Coast to independence from British rule in 1957.
