President Murmu inaugurates World Book Fair in Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu has said that reading books is not just a hobby but a transformative experience. Inaugurating the World Book Fair 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon, the President said that reading books from different languages and cultures builds bridges among regions and communities. The president appealed to everyone to give special importance to the creation and promotion of books for children. President Murmu said that one of the best habits that can be developed in children is the love for reading books. The president said that the National Book Trust and the Ministry of Education have been organising the book fair for the past five decades. She appreciated their sustained contribution to the great cause of promoting the culture of reading books. The President said that the theme of this year’s fair highlights the journey of India as a republic in the last 75 years. The president said that the book fair also provides an excellent expression of India’s cultural diversity, its abiding unity, and excellent progress.

In the nine-day fair, Russia is the focus country. Over 50 countries, including France, Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar, are participating in the New Delhi World Book Fair. Nearly two thousand publishers and one thousand speakers are attending the fair. Ambassador of Russia to India Denis Alipov, Secretary of School Education Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of Higher Education Vineet Joshi, popular Russian writer Dr Alexei Varlamov, Chairman of the National Book Trust Prof. Milind Sudhakar Marathe, and Director of the National Book Trust Yuvraj Malik were present on the occasion.
