Education Ministry is deliberating on measures to increase the number of international students coming to India for higher studies. In a review meeting of the Study in India Programme in Delhi, Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare said that the criteria for institutions partnering under the programme will soon be revised.This would be done with the aim of enabling more institutions which have the necessary infrastructure and academic quality to join the Study in India programme. He also said that no distinction will be made between private and public institutions in matters of supporting internationalization.The Education Ministry has said there is an urgent requirement of setting up International Students’ Offices in every institution that takes in international students. The Secretary called upon all partner institutions to set up world class hostels for international students.
-The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will now investigate the death case of Mansukh Hiren. The NIA spokesperson has said that, Home ministry has issued an order in this regard. At present, Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad is investigating the case. Mansukh Hiren is reported to be the owner of an explosive-laden vehicle found outside the house of Industrialist Mukesh Ambani. He was found dead in Thane creek on the 5th of March.
-In the view of rising Covid cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra, Passengers arriving in Mumbai from Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Goa and Kerala have to undergo Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at railways stations. Passengers coming via trains passing through these states may also have to undergo Rapid Antigen Test.Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an order and asked the railway authorities to randomly identify passengers and carry out at least 1 thousand tests per day. RAT will also be carried out at Malls, Markets, tourist places etc.It will be carried out without the consent of passengers/visitors and BMC has clarified that those who refuse to test will have to face action under epidemic act 1897. Those who are visiting malls will have to pay the cost of Antigen test while BMC will pay for the Random tests carried out at other places.
-Embassy of India Beijing kickstarted India@75 celebrations with belated Vishwa Hindi Diwas celebrations on Saturday which was attended by the Chinese students studying Hindi in different Chinese universities, their Hindi teachers and members of the Indian community in Beijing. Ambassador Vikram Misri read Prime Minister’s message on Vishwa Hindi Diwas. He said that Hindi is one of the top spoken languages in the world and Vishwa Hindi Diwas is an occasion to promote Hindi and celebrate its popularity at global level.A video celebrating India’s achievements since Independence was played on the occasion to celebrate the 75 years of India’s Independence - “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.Chinese teachers and students termed Hindi as an important medium to understand India’s culture and emphasised on its role in building bridges between India and China. Professor Jiang Jingkui, a renowned Chinese authority on Hindi language and spearheading the efforts to promote and popularize Hindi in China told that efforts are underway to establish 4 more national level centres for studies related to India, specially Hindi by the end of this year in addition to existing two centres at Peking University and Shenchen University. At present, around 500 chinese students are studying hindi in around 17 universities in China.
-'Mujib Jackets' made up of Khadi will be the attire of the dignitaries during the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh on March 26-27. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has supplied 100 custom designed ‘Mujib Jackets’ for the occasion. Considering the importance of the occasion, the consignment has already been dispatched to Dhaka by the KVIC. The specially designed 'Mujib Jackets' have been made of high quality handcrafted Poly Khadi fabric. The black 'Mujib Jackets' have been designed with 6 buttons, two pockets on the lower half and a front pocket on the left, as worn by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib. In keeping with the eco-friendly nature of the Khadi fabric, the covers for these jackets too have been made of black Khadi cotton fabric with Khadi India’s logo embroidered over it. These jackets will be carried in specially designed plastic-mixed handmade paper carry bags made at KVIC’s Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI) in Jaipur, said an official press release.
