Maharashtra: Dahi Handi festival celebrates with traditional fervour

In Maharashtra, dahi handi festival is being celebrated with traditional fervour on Friday, September 7,2023. Various Govinda groups are preparing human pyramids for dahihandi. Many ladies groups are also forming these human pyramids. In Mumbai, prizes worth lakh rupees are announced by organisers for these human pyramids. Some groups have practiced for 8 and 9 layers in the pyramid. Maharashtra government has provided insurance to around 75 thousand govindas. Special arrangements are also done in the hospital for treatment govinda injured during pyramids. BMC has said that it has kept 125 beds ready at civic hospitals in the city in case any 'Govinda'gets injured during the act.Meanwhile,the Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra government to frame a comprehensive policy for public celebration of Dahi Handi and other festivals in Mumbai taking into account the city's increasing population and the limited capacity of its public spaces.
