Five states report steep rise in Covid cases, Night curfew in Punjab

In India, five states-  Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh are reporting a steep rise in daily new Covid Cases. Maharashtra reported highest daily new cases at 25,833. It is followed by Punjab with2,369 while Kerala reported 1,899 new cases. According to the health ministry the country reported nearly 40,000 coronavirus cases in a single day on Friday. Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in Punjab, chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh ordered massive state-wide restrictions beginning from Saturday, with the closure of educational institutions till March 31 and restrictions on cinema/mall capacities.In the 11 worst-hit districts of Punjab, a complete ban has been ordered on all social gatherings and related functions, except for funerals/cremations/ weddings, which will be allowed with only 20 persons in attendance. Night curfew has also been imposed in these districts.The curfew will be imposed from 9pm to 6am. Only medical colleges will remain open, according to the measures announced by the Punjab government.

India has so far tested over 23 crore samples for coronavirus so far. Of these, 10.57 lakh samples were tested on Thursday itself. Centre is actively engaging with all State and Union Territory governments, especially those showing an upsurge in daily new cases and with a high caseload of active cases. It said, centre is regularly reviewing the status of COVID containment and public health measures with them. Bihar Government has cancelled leaves of all doctors and healthcare workers, paramedical staff till April 5 in view of the Covid-19 situation. Health Ministry on Friday said that of the total cases of coronavirus in India, 96.26 per cent comprise recoveries, 2.82 per cent comprise active cases and 1.38 per cent comprise deaths.
