In Chhattisgarh, five police and security personnel were killed and about two dozen other injured in an encounter with Maoists in Bijapur district on Saturday. The forces also gunned down at least two Naxals, including a woman operative. Two of the deceased jawans were from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while three were from the District Reserve Guard (DRG). "The personnel belonging to the CRPF's elite unit CoBRA , the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operation," Director General of Police DM Awasthi said.
"The encounter broke out in Tarrem area near Sukma and Bijapur border,when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Naxal operation," Awasthi said. The encounter lasted for about two hours and bodies of five jawans have been recovered by the forces. The forces are still returning from the jungles and we are waiting for more information, said the DGP.
