Bengal:Bikaner-Guwahati express derails in Jalpaiguri, 5 dead

In West Bengal,the Bikaner - Guwahati express train derailed near New Domohani railway station on Thursday evening  leaving five passengers dead and many injured.. According to Indian Railways officials, train No. 15633 Up Express left New Domohani station at around 5 PM and while the train was on run in block section between New Domohani and New Moynagori stations, it derailed. The accident relief train and Medical van have been rushed to the accident site. Jalpaiguri district magistrate Moumita Godara Basu said five bodies have been found till 7pm and over 20 passengers with injuries rushed to the local Moynaguri government hospital.

 “There were not too many passengers in the train because of the Covid pandemic (restrictions),” Dilip Kumar Singh, divisional railway manager of the Alipuarduar section of the North East Frontier Railway, told reporters.An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those who receive grievous injuries and Rs 25,000 for those who suffer simple injuries.A high-level inquiry by the Commission of Railway Safety has been ordered to probe the cause of the accident. Indian Railways has issued helpline numbers. They are- 0361- 2731622, 2731623.
