in Assam so far, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.He said that another 97,000 have been marked as 'Doubtful'(D) voters. Sarma, who also holds the Home portfolio, said 100 Foreigners' Tribunals (FTs), which deal with the citizenship issue of D-voters in the state, are currently functional in the state.Sarma said that the final list of the National Register of Citizens, NRC is not published. He said that as per the the Citizenship ( Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2023, Ragistrar General of India,RGI has the power to publish the final NRC list. Replying to a question in assembly on Monday, he mentioned that the Assam government hasn't filed any affidavit to verify the NRC.
On the issue of put on hold of nearly 27 lakh people's Aadhar card, Sarma informed that the matter has been brought to the notice of the Centre and likely to get some solutions soon. He asserted that government is trying to resolve the issue.The Chief Minister also stated that from 1997 to 2023, over 89 thousand Doubtful voters have been removed from the Electoral Rolls. He said a total of 41,275 D-voters are yet to receive FT notice as it is served after following due procedure and it takes time to observe all formalities.
